BST

bovine somatotrophin;  A peptide hormone produced by cows in the anterior pituitary gland. High-yielding dairy cows have higher circulating levels and injection of BST increases the yield of milk by minimising the rate of yield decline after peak lactation. Approved for use in the USA in 1993, prohibited in the EU.

Differs in amino acid sequence from human somatotrophin by about 35% and has negligible activity in human beings.
