                Honey

Analysis of Honey

  • Determination of specific gravity

Clean and thoroughly dry the specific gravity bottle weigh fill it with distilled water it has been maintained at 27(+\-)1C and weigh, remove the water dry the bottle again and fill it with the honey sample maintained at the same temperature weigh the bottle again.

              Calculation

   Specific gravity at 27C    =  C-A
                                                   D-A

Where

C= weight of the specific gravity bottle with the honey.
A= weight of the empty specific gravity bottle.
D= weight of the specific gravity bottle with water.

Example:-

Weight of specific gravity bottle (A) = 28.4773
Weight of specific gravity bottle,
    after filling distilled water (D)        = 54.8809
Weight of specific gravity bottle
    after filling honey (C)                      = 65.2718
Specific gravity at 27C                      = 65.2718-28.4773
                                                                 54.8809-28.4773
                                                              = 1.3935
